IDIOM OF THE DAY
Privacy Policy for Idioms and Phrases
Last updated: 2026-09-01
Idioms and Phrases replaces the Chrome new tab page with an idiom of the day and shortcuts to sites you already visit often.
WHAT DATA WE COLLECT
This extension does not collect accounts, names, emails, or analytics.
It stores only:
- Today’s idiom (the phrase, meaning, and examples) so every new tab shows the same one until the next day
- A local list of recently shown idiom titles so the daily pick does not repeat too soon
It also reads Chrome’s most-visited sites list on your device so the new tab can show shortcut links and their site icons. That list never leaves your browser.
HOW DATA IS STORED
All of the above stays in Chrome’s local extension storage on this device. The extension does not use synced storage and does not send data to a developer-operated server.
If Chrome’s built-in on-device language model is available, optional extra examples are generated on this device and are not stored.
HOW DATA IS USED
- Local idiom storage keeps the daily phrase stable across new tabs and the toolbar popup
- The most-visited list is used only to render shortcut links on the new tab page
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
This extension does not use analytics, advertising, or other third-party services.
The new tab footer links to an optional Google Form if you choose to submit an idiom, and to the maintainer’s website. Those links open only when you click them.
DATA SHARING
Data is not sold or shared with third parties.
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Local data remains until you remove the extension or clear site/extension data in Chrome. Uninstalling the extension deletes its local storage.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If storage or data practices change, this policy will be updated in the project repository.
